The general rule states that agreed holidays can’t be revoked solely by one party. Also, the employee has no obligation to be reachable during his vacation.
Nevertheless, the employee has the duty inform in case he is available during his absence (via email, phone) and the employer asks for certain important information, which nobody else has and the non-issuing of it might lead to serious economic damages.
The employer can retrieve an employee for particularly fatal reasons (emergency, flooding, …). This can happen under the condition of being as gentle as possible, and also the employer has to replace all costs incl. cancelation fee. This is only allowed, if this particular employee is essential to prevent serious economic damages.
